Recently I wrote about how Sunday night blues are something that affect so many of us and how we can overcome the feeling of anxiety and dread when we realize the weekend is coming to a close. As we are heading towards the second half of the summer and parents are getting back into the busy routine of the school year, I thought I’d share a list of things you can do on Sundays that will set you up for an energetic start to a new week!

Unplug

If possible, try to take a break from checking emails or social media updates. You don’t have to unplug the entire day, but if you can do it for a couple of hours on Sundays, you’ll be mentally and physically healthier for it. This means no phones, computers, or even TVs.

Don’t forget to exercise

Exercise does your body good, especially since it helps boost the production of feel good hormones endorphins, helps you to relax, and improves sleep. And it doesn’t have to be strenuous either. Go for a light jog, ride a bike, or simply take a walk.

Yoga or meditation

Stretching, breathing exercises, and meditation help clear your mind and relieve both physical and mental stress. The best thing is that you can do these exercises in your own home since there is a wealth of information you can find online. I’m new to meditation and l recently started using guided meditations through an app on my phone. If you look around, you’ll find that there so many free apps to choose from.

Pick out clothes for the work week

I usually spend some time on Sunday picking out my outfits for the upcoming week, so during the week, I don’t have to run around in the morning looking for a missing shirt or accessory. While my wardrobe is filled with work clothes in mostly neutral colors, I have a couple of fun outfits like florals, yellows, and reds (not all together of course!) that I like to wear on Mondays. When you look good, you feel good. I find that when I look put together, I definitely feel more energized and ready to tackle my tasks.

Wind down early Sunday night

Go to bed a little early on Sunday night and be sure to get enough sleep so you can wake up feeling well rested. Cut out caffeinated drinks hours before you plan to go to sleep. Set up a bedtime alarm if you have to.

Enjoy a nice sit down meal

During the week, with hectic work schedules, soccer practices, dance lessons and more, having a sit down meal with family is such a treat. Take some time on the weekend to enjoy each other’s company over brunch or dinner, try a new dish that you would not have time to make during the weekday, or put together a fun “make-your-own” pizza, taco, or burger bar.

Develop relaxation rituals

Whether it is getting a manicure pedicure, taking a warm bath, or doing some stretching exercises, you should make time to relax so that your Monday starts off on the right foot. For me, putting on some music and baking is something that helps me relax. Next, I’ll make a pot of tea, light some scented candles, and curl up on the couch with a book for a few hours. Actually this is not just a Sunday thing for me, but filling our home with a nice scent and seeing the glow from candlelight is instantly calming for me.

One of my recent favorites is the Atmosphere Collection™ Fine Home Fragrance by Glade®. These curated and artisanal scents were created to help complement your home and decor. I love the N°1 Enraptured – Jasmine and Cedarwood scent which permeates the room with a sweet, calming smell. And of course, the N°3 Free – Coconut and Beach Woods scent. It just makes me feel as though l am on a beach swinging in a hammock!
