Apple Pie Smoothie is everything you love about the namesake dessert in a healthy, sippable form!
Happy Halloween! Isn’t it nice that Halloween falls on a Friday this year? How are you celebrating? We live in an apartment building so we are not expecting any trick-or-treaters. That is to say, we can have all the treats to ourselves. Well I have been treating myself all week long, and especially so today, when my coworkers suggested that we go to Bubby’s and order pies for lunch. You read it right — PIES for LUNCH. No need to twist my arms for me to agree to that, but I bet I’ll be in a sugar coma for the rest of the afternoon.
Speaking of desserts, I made Apple Raspberry Crisp early this week (I told you the self-indulgence has been going on all week) and James claimed that it was just as good as the ones his grandmother used to make when he was a kid. Sweet, tart filling topped with crunchy, buttery oats. Does it get any better than that?
We had some leftovers, so the next morning, I scooped some of that fruit crisp into my bowl and mixed it with a big dollop of tangy, creamy yogurt – it was the ultimate breakfast. Which gave me the idea: dessert in a smoothie form.
Apple Pie Smoothie to be exact!
You know when you have a slice of warm apple pie topped with vanilla ice cream and the ice cream melts through and infuses the slice with creamy goodness? That’s what this smoothie tastes like.
I use unsweetened applesauce to get that cooked apple pie taste and then mix in some brown sugar (you can also use sugar in the raw) and warm spices for a dessert-like smoothie that totally hits the spot.
- 1 cup unsweetened apple sauce
- ½ cup non-fat vanilla yogurt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- ¼ tsp cinnamon
- pinch of nutmeg
- 1 cup ice cubes
- Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Add more milk if necessary to achieve desire consistency. Serve immediately.
