Thick, creamy chocolate smoothie flavored with almond and coconut, with a boost of protein from an unexpected ingredient!
I love making smoothies because they’re so easy to adjust and make your own. While I never really think of smoothies as actual “recipes” due to their simplicity, I love sharing easy, healthy, and delicious smoothie combinations with you guys since it makes eating well more accessible.
Today, I want to tell you about this Almond Joy Superfood Smoothie! Because the only thing better than having dessert for breakfast is having a healthy dessert for breakfast :) This smoothie has the consistency of a creamy milkshake and is reminiscent of the classic flavor combo: chocolate, almond, and coconut. As a bonus, it is full of wholesome and good-for-you ingredients that give you your chocolate fix along with a big dose of antioxidants and protein.
My secret ingredient in this recipe is the Original Superfood, Friendship Dairies Cottage Cheese. A quick label read shows that the 1% cottage cheese has a whopping 15 grams of protein per half-cup serving, which makes it a good source of sustainable energy! If you’ve never added cottage cheese to smoothies, I hope you give it a try! Cottage cheese does wonders for the consistency – you can’t tell it’s there but it just makes the smoothie extra thick and creamy.
This smoothie is super simple to make! All you have to do is combine the ingredients, blend and enjoy! I added some cacao nibs, toasted coasted and a sprinkle of chopped almonds to the top of my smoothie, but you can add anything you like.
Friendship Dairies recently introduced the Superfood Generator, an awesome online tool that helps people discover the endless possibilities of cottage cheese mix-ins and their nutritional benefits. You can select up to three mix-ins and see how the combo fares on the nutrition front.
