5 Things I Always Have in My Carry-On Bag

Last Updated on March 20, 2017 by Karen

I’m always looking forward to traveling and try to take advantage of any time I have off to visit a new place, whether it is somewhere near or far. If travelling by air, most airlines allow you to bring one piece of carry-on bag. When packing my carry-on bag, I make sure the most important things I may need during the flight are in there.

I compiled a list of some of the must-have items that I always pack in my carry-on bag to help me stay comfortable so I can hit the ground running when I land:

1. Fresh fruits and trail mix

Pack a fruit or a bag of trail mix because you never know when you’re going to get hungry. I prefer firm fruits like a whole apple or pear, so it will not get smashed as a banana would. As for trail mix. I make my own with roasted, unsalted nuts like almonds, cashews, and walnuts. Sometimes I will toss in some dried apricots, raisins, and cranberries which will help keep me full and satisfied until mealtime.

2. Thick wool socks and blanket scarf

The temperature on an airplane can fluctuate greatly and when it gets chilly, putting on these thick wool socks and a blanket scarf instantly make me feel comfortable and cozy.

3. Portable charger

Portable chargers are a life saver when all the outlets at the airport terminal are taken or when you’re using your phone to watch videos or movies during the long journey. Most importantly, you don’t want to be caught without battery when your flight is cancelled or delayed (happened to me many times!) and you need to use your phone to rebook a new flight or accommodation.

4. Water bottle

It’s so important to stay hydrated when travelling. While you’re not allowed to bring full water bottles through security, I always bring an empty bottle and refill at the drinking fountains after security. Sometimes I will ask for hot water during my flight and make my own tea in the thermos with chamomile or mint tea bag so that I can sip on throughout the flight.

5. Chewing gum

Chewing on sugar free gum helps me make sure I keep to my regular dental hygiene even when my schedule is thrown off by plane travel (not to mention it helps me relieve the pressure in my ear during take off and landing).  I like Orbit® Gum available in a variety of flavors like Spearmint and Sweet Mint, which provide oral care benefits and helps keep my mouth feeling clean and fresh. With only 5-10 calories per serving, you feel more confident and ready to make the most of your moment!

These are my top five must have carry-on items which I bring along no matter where I travel.  Hope this list is helpful for next time you travel!  Have fun on your adventures!
