Fresh Cherry Limeade

Cool down with a pitcher of refreshing limeade made with fresh sweet cherries!

What a week!  It’s been hot and humid one day, cloudy and stormy the next.  And now that it’s finally Friday, I thought I’d celebrate the weekend by sharing a summer drink with you.  Black cherries and limes combine to make this sweet and tart thirst quencher that tastes as good as it looks.

Instead of using cherry juice like some recipes call for, I make my own simply syrup with fresh cherries. The cherry syrup gives the drink a beautiful red color and it’s completely natural.

Cool down with a pitcher of refreshing limeade made with fresh sweet cherries!

Ingredients

1 lb sweet black cherries, pitted
1 cup sugar
1 ½ cups water
¾ cup fresh lime juice
3 to 4 cups still or sparkling water, to dilute

Place cherries, sugar, and water into a medium saucepan. Cover and simmer over medium heat until cherries are tender and have made a fragrant syrup, about 15 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Strain mixture through a fine mesh strainer and discard the cherries.

In a pitcher, mix together cherry simple syrup, lime juice, and water (more or less to the desired strength). Stir well and serve over ice.

  2. YUM! Love cherry limeade but I’ve always been making it with the mix. This has certainly convinced me to make it with fresh cherries!
