I think it’s no secret that I’m a bacon aficionado. I love to create new and interesting recipes that involve bacon, so I was really thrilled when I was able to find some thick cut chipotle smoked bacon at my grocery store to use in a recipe! I tested a few recipes with them and was quite pleased with the results, especially in this candied bacon recipe I am sharing with you today.

These bacon skewers are addicting, so make sure you make enough for everyone to “try”. I make these as a special breakfast or brunch treat and usually they’re gone in seconds. BUT, if you happen to have some leftover, you can crumble them up over salad or make this delicious Candied Bacon Avocado Club Sandwiches.

It’s actually really easy to make!

Step 1: Start with thick cut bacon slices (the regular thin cut ones don’t do too well in this recipe) and blot them dry with a paper towel.

Step 2: Combine brown sugar with cinnamon and whatever spices you like. The thick cut bacon I used is already seasoned with chipotle peppers, but you can feel free to add chipotle chili powder, cayenne pepper (if you like a bit of heat), or smoky paprika to your brown sugar mixture.

Step 3: Thread each slice of bacon on a skewer. I like to push the bacon closer to create some ripples because I find that they help to trap some of the brown sugar mixture and create nice crispy candied pieces.

Step 4: Place them on a disposable pan (best if there are ridges, but if you can’t find those, regular ones are okay too) and bake in oven for about 25 to 30 minutes until they are nice and caramelized. You should start checking on them after 15 minutes since bacon thickness varies.

Step 5: Hope you enjoy these!

Ingredients

  • ½ cup light brown sugar tightly packed
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 12 thick-cut chipotle smoked bacon slices

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and set a baking rack on top (I just used a disposable aluminum foil tray with ridges for easy clean up).
  • In a shallow dish, mix sugar, cinnamon, and black pepper. Dip bacon slices in the sugar mixture, coating both sides, and thread each strip of bacon onto a wooden skewer. Place the bacon skewers on the rack.
  • Bake for 25 to 35 minutes, or until the bacon appears to be caramelized and crispy. Serve warm or at room temperature.
